The Start of Eunoia

"The new normal"- the abyss of a year. The Australian wildfires where three billion animals died. Beloved Kobe Bryant and his daughter died because of a helicopter crash.  Everyone wearing masks when leaving the house, making sure to be 6ft apart from others. 2020 changed all, a year of turmoil.

In the early stages of the lockdown, I felt a sudden stop; my life completely stopped, no more swimming, socializing, going to restaurants. The things I loved had stopped. It was a psychological imperative to slow down.

It was hard for me to cope with in the early stages. I started to lose interest in things I was passionate about, and I buried myself with regret. While others were trying to be the best versions of themselves during the quarantine season, I felt like I was losing the best part about me.

"I can't breathe"- May 26th, 2020, George Floyd's protest had begun. Eight minutes and 46 seconds was how long a police officer had knelt on George's neck. The Black Lives Matter movement had started, and I decided to take a new perspective of the pandemic. I was not going to sit by and watch. As a person of color, I felt the need to help and change what was happening. Posting on social media and kneeling, keeping people aware that even though the protest is over doesn't mean the issue is too.

Election season was here, and the white house's attack occurred—a low for the country where people had stormed the capital. People were upset by the election results, and it was a failure to overturn the presidential election, a delay in counting electoral votes.

The many events that have occurred over the past year impacted my life. I have started to understand the values of the world community. The world community's values reflect the moral ideals that most of us believe in as the basis for human existence; human rights, environmental protection, religious beliefs. These changes around me made me stronger and aware of the new normal.  I started Eunoia, to create a platform to create mindfulness & emotional intelligence.
